We are thrilled that several of our colleagues have been declared finalists in the national Leaders in Care Awards 2022. This year we have nominations for three Healthcare Management Solutions-operated care homes and a finalist place for our very own CEO Tony Stein.
The Leaders in Care Awards celebrates the achievements of UK-based care providers and suppliers who serve the sector. The annual awards, organised by Care Home Professional Magazine, will take place at the National Conference Centre in Birmingham on Tuesday 11th October.
Several of our brands have received nominations this year at the prestigious industry awards gala.
Our Registered Manager of the Year Finalists
Clare Leonard, home manager of Larchwood Care’s Appleby Care Home in North Shields, has achieved a finalist place in the ‘Registered Manager of the Year (North)’ category. Recently, Clare became the first care home manager in the country to achieve the coveted NIHR Greenshoots Award.
The scheme provides two years’ worth of funding to help applicants achieve their dream of becoming a principal investigator. Up to £9,000 is available for applicants to run research projects in their care home over the course of two years. These research projects will help to shape the future of social care, putting Appleby Care Home at the forefront of innovation in the sector. The funding will also enable more training for the home’s nurses and provide extra support for new innovations within the service.
Abdul Rifai, home manager of Larchwood Care’s Dunagte Manor Care Home in Reigate, has been nominated for the ‘Registered Manager of the Year (South)’ award. Abdul has an outstanding ability to motivate and inspire his team, ensuring that his vision of an efficient, well-led and above all caring service is maintained. In recent months, Abdul’s focus on staff development and continuous improvement has been reflected in achieving Carehome.co.uk’s top review score of 10. Additionally, the excellent feedback from residents and their relatives helped them secure a place in the Carehome.co.uk Top 20 homes in the South East of England Awards.
Also in receipt of a finalist place in the ‘Registered Manager of the Year (South)’ award, is Paula Windmill, home manager of Wren Retirement Living’s Linden House in Epsom. Paula strongly believes in a holistic approach to management, and has created a culture of listening and responding, where her team feel free to share their ideas or concerns. This has helped Paula build a strong and dedicated team, several of whom have worked at Linden House for many years.
The retention of these crucial permanent team members, who have built strong relationships with the home’s residents, helps to drive excellent levels of care and service as evidenced in recent Carehome.co.uk reviews and their current review score of 9.9.
Executive of the Year Nomination for Our CEO
In addition to this year’s nominated individuals from Healthcare Management Solutions-operated care homes, Tony Stein, our chief executive, has been nominated in the ‘Executive of the Year’ category of the Leaders in Care Awards this year.
Following the challenges of the pandemic, Tony has driven the business forward; expanding into new areas, taking on new homes and creating employment opportunities.
Tony is also key in driving forward the in-house development of digital care systems, including the carePORTAL management system and the e-Care app to assist with all of the checks that need to be completed by the maintenance teams. Furthermore, the new carePORTAL Roster staff planning solution has been nominated in the ‘Business Services’ category of the Leaders in Care Awards.
Tony Stein said: “It really is wonderful to see our home managers nominated for this year’s Leaders in Care Awards. Clare, Paula and Abdul are inspirational leaders and set excellent examples for their care teams. All three have such a strong vision for their services and strive to deliver the very best person-centred care for the people they support.
I am also thrilled to see carePORTAL Roster, our new staff planning solution for the care sector recognised with an award nomination. I am passionate about implementing technology that has the ability to streamline administration, so our teams can focus on what they do best, caring for their residents. I wish all of our nominees the very best of luck.”
